Northwestern to fly Ithaca
According to this blog entry, Northwestern is planning on flying into Ithaca as soon as May. The Ithaca Journal writes:
Under a pending agreement that Northwest must approve, two 34-seat turboprop planes would leave Ithaca daily — one in the early morning and one in the afternoon. The daily schedule would also include two return flights from Detroit.
“This is a wonderful milestone for Tompkins County,” Michael Lane, D-Dryden, said before the Legislature voted unanimously on Tuesday night to authorize final negotiations with Northwest. “The economic well-being of Tompkins County is so tied up with the airport and our transportation facilities.”
This is good news for all of us, as US Airways has had a monopoly on Ithaca travel for quite some time now, and their quality of service is not always the best. 20% of the time I fly there (Philadelphia to Ithaca is always bad, I hear) my bags did not make it onto the plane and had to be recovered on a subsequent flight.

Interestingly, there was a report on the news the other day where a customer satisfaction survey gave the airlines aweful reviews. And the larger airlines faired the worst. In other surveys, I’ve always seen Southwest Airlines as being both the most profitable AND as having the highest customer satisfaction… I don’t understand why the larger airlines don’t try and learn what Southwest is doing right (also, I don’t know much about US Airways’s ratings)
Speaking of traveling to Ithaca…I found a new website called http://www.flytoithaca.com which seems to search all the various travel websites like Expedia, travelocity, jetblue, etc…
