Gates donate $25 million to Cornell CIS
According to the Cornell press office, the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation has awarded a $25 million grant to Cornell University to construct an “information campus” for Computing and Information Science (CIS). Some juicy building details are included in the release:
Preliminary plans are for Gates Hall — estimated at 100,000 square feet and projected to cost about $50 million — to house a lecture hall, faculty offices, classrooms, laboratories, student project spaces and conference rooms. The building will make innovative use of technology to foster collaboration both on and off campus, and it will include facilities specifically designed for CIS faculty, researchers and students.
I wonder if this is a good thing or a bad thing. CMU (and other schools) are incredibly proud of their Gates buildings, but increased Microsoft presence on campus could stiffle innovation. Still, I doubt Cornell would ever complain about a free building donation, even if the money came dripping blood from Columbian drug lords. As long as it could be washed off…

Where’s it gonna go?
The Bill & Melinda Gates foundation and Microsoft cooperation are two separate entities. Thus, just because Bill & Melinda Gates foundation decided to donate $25 millions to Cornell does not imply “increased Microsoft presence on campus,” which you seem to be fallaciously assuming.
i wanted to know could you start a foundation to people trying to get disabiality.i signed up over 3 yrs. ago and just recieved a letter i was denied. i have several medical problems. i’ll tell you a few. i have bronchietasi which make me cough up mucus all the time and also sometime smy lungs bleed and i have to take 4 breathing treatments at one time to stop the bleeding. i have enphensema which i take breathing treatments every 4 hrs. i have arthirtis.my hands swell it hurts to use them.i’m on oxygen at night.i take breathing inhalers.i’ve had 4 surgeries on my arms.2 on my elbows and 2 on my shoulders.this is some of my medical problems.hope you can help people like me.thank you for listening. i also have a mass on my left lung.i’m short winded.please help
