After Jackson’s nose in the Stereo decided to leave, the much awaited Asher Roth showed up! HoOoRay! He was terrible. I know this because I watched his whole show and then conducted an unrecorded survey of sample size n=? and enough of the n agreed that he was terrible.

Check out Slope Day = Nope Day …(?) for the scathing review…

If you took an apathetic Eminem stoned out of his mind and forced him to make a rap album, you mind end up with something like Asher Roth’s Asleep in the Bread Aisle, which will be officially released on 4/20 for the low price of $7.99. Buying the album means you’ll get a chance to hear your Slope Day opener before he hits the stage.

This might not be a good thing–in every possible way, from lyrics, to delivery, to backing music, and beats, he’s just the latest breed of commercial rap-crap, lacking any musicality or passion. If a word had to describe him, it would be apathy. And, no relation to the underground hip-hop artist Apathy who delivers his own apocalyptic lines with a messianic fervor. Asher Roth’s apathy is the stuff of a loser who dropped out of college to smoke weed in his basement.

Decide for yourself, but here’s a small sample of his lyrics. They’re guaranteed to drop the functioning level of your brain down through the abstraction of sentience into free-associating drug-ridden male-fantasy:

“chumps can’t fuck with the punk kids / Ash Roth be the king of the blumpkins”

“But Em was in it way before I commited / And his lyrics were the shit, so I really gotta come with it / But each critic be picking apart my writing / if it isn’t up to par”

“Yeah I’m fresh, super fresh / I would do me in a sec”

“When it comes to condoms put two on (Trust me)”

You can check out more about Asher Roth at www.thedailykush.com/ where he maintains his homepage.

This is Elliott Bäck bringing you the first Slope Day 2005 reports, hot of east-side cornell. The music this year was Starting Line, followed by The Game, and finally Snoop Dogg, who took the stage more than 20 minutes later than planned. There was also plenty of beer, free food, police officers, and EMS life savers for the totally inebriated. Check out these pix:

… as well as some correct-looking airbrushed tattoos

The slope was packed and very crowded…

… with a big stage surrounded by people …

… but that didn’t stop students from bringing their grandparents to see Snoop Dogg!

When Snoop Dogg says “put your hands in the air,” you put ‘em up. Blocking the shot.

I couldn’t get close enough to the stage for any great Snoop Dogg pictures, but it was ok. The concerts were too loud to really enjoy anyway–you had to just be there for the whole ambiance and have fun in the afternoon!
