Snoop Dogg to Perform Slope Day

Rapper Calvin Broadus, also known as Snoop Dogg is scheduled to perform on Slop Day this may, along with rising star The Game.

Some discussion about the appropriateness of bringing Snoop to visit Cornell, cross cultural expression, and cost ensued, but in the end Snoop bore through. Apparently the man himself is very interested in coming here. Tickets go on sale April 20, for $25 each.

Old Cornell Logo v.s. JC Penny

There’s a remarkable similarity between the old Cornell University logo and JC Penny’s:

  JC Penny Logo
JC Penny “Cube”

Does the slight difference in coloration make them two distinct styles? It’s probably not even worth mentioning, especially since the “box logo” has been replaced for use by the University, but I find the brand confusion amusing. Yay, we’re the JC Penny of the Ivy League!

A commenter on the Cornell Redesign blog sez the new logo, “it is an improvement of the ‘JC Penny’ derivative,” while the Cornell Sun says nixing the JC Penny logo “helped unite the seven colleges of the University.”
